Eckard's is proud to offer a broad range of hardwood flooring solutions.  Whether you're in Missouri or visiting our Savannah, GA Hardwood Flooring store, we have a lot for you to choose from.  This guide will help you understand some of the options.  When it comes to choosing hardwood flooring for your home, there are four main types to consider:

  • Unfinished wood flooring
  • Factory wood flooring
  • Solid wood flooring
  • Engineered wood flooring

All of these floors have their pros and cons. Choosing the best floor for your project will depend on your individual needs.

Unfinished Wood Flooring

Unfinished wood flooring can easily be color-matched to blend in with existing wood flooring in your home. It can also be easier on your budget. The main con with unfinished flooring is the work that still needs to be done once the floor is installed. Unfinished wood flooring may also not be as durable as a pre-finished product.

Pre-Finished Hardwood Flooring

Once pre-finished hardwood flooring is installed you can walk on it straight away, there is no extra work to be done. This type of wood flooring comes in many colors and finishes and can be installed quickly. If you are looking to match your new flooring with existing flooring it may be more difficult to find a good match with pre-finished products. Most pre-finished wood flooring has beveled edges which can cause gaps in your flooring that may collect dirt and dust.

Solid Wood Flooring

Solid wood floors are made up of solid pieces of wood which can vary in thickness. It can be sanded and refinished often so that your floor stays in top condition for many years to come.  This is a favorite for Savannah Hardwood Flooring

Cons for solid wood flooring include the following:

  • Your floor will need to be sanded and finished on site. You may need to be out of the house for a bit to avoid noise, dust, and chemicals being used to complete your new floor.
  • Solid wood floors also tend to expand and contract which can cause cracks and swelling

Engineered Wood Flooring

Unlike solid wood, engineered flooring is a more stable product and will be less likely to expand and contract. It is a finished product and once applied to your homes floors, it can be walked on straight away. Engineered flooring is more expensive than solid wood and can have a shorter life span.
