Wood flooring is unfortunately very sensitive to the very small amounts of moisture vapor your home’s concrete slab is constantly emitting. This moisture comes from the ground, and is imperceptibly small. This moisture evaporates right through carpeting and ceramic / porcelain / stone tile, but can absolutely wreck havoc on a new wood floor. We at Eckard’s Flooring Design Center recommend the Taylor Ridgeline wood adhesive because when installed correctly it provides a moisture barrier that complies with the wood flooring industry tolerances while offering a wonderful hold for years to come. There are products out there that cost more, but offer less protection, and products that cost way less but don’t hold as well.
In order to get the full benefit of the Ridgeline moisture guard protection, you need one four gallon pail per 80 square feet of floor space. If you don’t need that full benefit, estimate around 200 square feet per pail. The only way to know for sure is to perform a moisture test on your slab. Give us a shout & we can go over how we do this & if you need it.
