Installing hardwood flooring with adhesive over a concrete subfloor is not for thefaint of heart! With the proper tools, patience & general handiness, some folks are able to take it on, but the pros definitely can do twice as much work in half the time. Beyond just manipulating the adhesive so that it stays on the floor (and not on you & the walls & the cat & everything else!), knowing what to do when… is very important. What to do when the walls are not square. What to do when there is a hump or dip in the slab. What type of trowel to use & when. How to slide planks under door jams in tight spaces… the list of odd situations is endless & so are the tricks to solve them.
We generally charge $2.50 per square foot to install glue down engineered hardwood flooring. This does not include any kind of prep that may be needed to repair issues with the slab such as depressions or high spots. These issues can only truly be assessed after the old flooring has been taken up, but before the new floorgoes down. This is one of the most important conversations we can have before the sale is made and the install process starts. We will discuss every process, and possible cost before we do anything in your home. Then, during the install process if we find that there are issues to be addressed, our guys will stop work until they can show you what they have encountered & go over with you the repair solution. Only when you are satisfied that you understand what is needed & agree to additional costs will we proceed with any further work.
There is no one best way to solve issues like these, as each home is different & unique. There is an entire industry built around solving subfloor related issues & finding the best product for each individual problematic slab is a part of what we do.It is also important to us at Eckard’s to never perform any work that we need to charge you for without going over that work first. It’s amazing to me that some builders, remodelers, handymen & the like agree to a project price then present a final invoice different than what was discussed because extra work had to be done & they just did it. I have been on the wrong side of that & it leaves a bad feeling.
We will never surprise you with a bill that is higher than what we discuss & agree to. Ever.
